Lighting Issues

I love my apartment since it reflects my personal taste, but I am having major issues in the whole lighting category in my living room. Our living room is square shaped and it is hard to find a lamp that lights up the room without being too bright or too dim. I have a floor lamp and a lamp on an end table but neither is lighting the room up properly and I detest overhead lights that are on our fan. Our floor lamp is too bright and the table lamp is not bright enough. I cannot win for loosing. I hate the lights in our kitchen as well since they are located at the most inconvenient places and are not bright either. I have a big kitchen/dining area and the lights on the ceiling barely light up half of my kitchen. I wish I had the means to do a complete overhaul on my apartment which makes me excited for the day when we can buy our own house and fix it up any way we see feasible.
