Phobias and such
Gastrointestinal problems definitely run in my family as does colon cancer. These two factors caused me to make my mom an appointment with a Gastrointestinal doctor in hopes to persuade her to have a colonoscopy done. As we sat in the exam room looking over various pamphlets on hemorrhoid treatment, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Colon Cancer, my mom decided to drop the bomb and tell me that the only reason she didn’t want a colonoscopy done is because she has a phobia with people touching her bottom. When the doctor came in, she proceeded to tell the doctor all about her phobia as well. For many years, I have always looked up to my mom and have never heard her once say she had a fear or phobia so when she decided to voice her phobia, it made me realize that my mom is only as human as I am. I obviously know she is a human but I have always idolized her and put her up on a pedestal so now I realize that she is just like me and I take comfort in that.

Alligator Skin
The hot, humid weather of the summertime has always wreaked havoc on my skin no matter how often I scrub my face and use moisturizers. This is one of the reasons I really want to move somewhere up north since I can deal with the cold weather a lot better than the weather we have had here that instantly takes your breath away from the heat once you walk outside. Seriously, a girl can in the south can buy the best night cream and use it religiously but still have alligator skin! It is ridiculous.

Deep down, I care!
When I look at my twelve year old brother, he makes me thank God that I don’t have to go back through the crazy times of being in middle school. He will be in the seventh grade next year and right now his life revolves around sports and girls. Like all middle school boys, he has recently started to worry about his face. He has had a few pimples pop up and since he has two older sisters, we have been harassing him ever since to take better care of his face. We have even gone to the extent to purchase him his very own acne cleanser. I consider taking care of your face a very important thing to do and I don’t want him to have any reason for other kids to make fun of him. I know that in middle school kids can be brutal and him having a “pizza face” is only giving kids ammo to make fun of himself. We have also been teaching him about having self confidence and that there is nothing for him to be ashamed of when it comes to his personal appearance. I want my brother to have a lot better self esteem than I did at his age!!
